Torsional Vibration of Crankshaft System – Measurement and Evaluation Method

1 SCOPE

This standard specifies the calculation, measurement and evaluation methods of torsional vibrations in shaft systems of the sets driven by reciprocating piston crank mechanism.
This standard applies to the crankshaft systems driven by reciprocating piston crank mechanism with three or more cylinders in each line, while the crankshaft systems of the internal combustion engines and piston compressors with less than three cylinders may use this standard as a reference.

3 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
Set
assembly of mechanisms including one or more machinery driven by reciprocating piston crank mechanism and the driven machinery
3.2
Shaft system
assembly of all the components of a set connected so that they can rotate
Note: When the torsional vibrations are calculated, the complete shaft system is considered.
3.3
Torsional vibration
oscillatory angular deformation (twist) of a rotating shaft system
3.4
Torsional vibration amplitude
maximum angular displacement measured in a section perpendicular to the axis of the shaft system between the angular position considered and a given arbitrary reference position
3.5
Relative amplitude
Ratio of the amplitude at a certain point in the shaft system to the amplitude at the reference point
