Torque Converters – Methods of Performance Tests

1 SCOPE

This Standard specifies the test conditions, test methods and data processing methods for determining the performance of torque converters on the bench.
This Standard applies to the performance tests of various kinds of torque converters.

2 TEST CLASSIFICATION

Tests are divided into two categories, i.e. fundamental performance test, intended to determine the performance of torque converter, and practical performance test, intended to determine the actual service performance of torque converter.
a) Fundamental performance test
 Performance test in traction condition;
 Performance test in stall condition;
 Performance test in reversing drag condition;
 Performance test in reversing rotation condition.
b) Practical performance test
 Matching traction performance test;
 Performance test in working load condition (abbreviated as “Load performance test”);
 Performance test in coasting condition (abbreviated as “Coasting performance test”).
