Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles – Safety Requirement of Fuel Cell Stack


1 SCOPE

This standard specifies the safety requirements of fuel cell stacks for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) in terms of hydrogen safety, electrical safety and mechanical structure.
This standard applies to the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell stack for vehicles. This standard only deals with the conditions that can yield hazards to human body and cause damage outside the fuel cell stacks. Protection against damage inside the fuel cell stacks is not addressed in this standard, provided it does not lead to hazards outside the stack.

3 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

For the purpose of this document, the terms and definitions established in GB/T 24548 and GB/T 28816 as well as the followings apply.
3.1
Fuel cell stack for vehicle
“Fuel cell stack for vehicle” means the fuel cell stack which provides the electrical energy for propulsion of fuel cell electric vehicles.
Note: this standard applies to PEM fuel cell stacks fuelled with hydrogen.
