\n1 SCOPE<\/p>\n
This Standard specifies the specific requirements on test apparatus, test procedure, calculation of test results and test report with respect to the density of smoke from the burning or decomposition of building materials.
\nThis Standard specifies the test method for measuring the static-state amounts of smoke produced by the burning or decomposition of building materials. This test method is intended to test the smoke density by measuring the loss of light transmission in a test chamber under the standardized test conditions. The test apparatus is constructed so that the flame and smoke can be observed during the test.
\nThis standard should be used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or appraise the fire-hazard or fire-risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire-hazard\/risk which takes into account all of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard\/risk of a particular end use.<\/p>\n
