1 SUBJECT CONTENT AND SCOPE OF APPLICATION<\/p>\n
This standard specifies the graphical symbols to identify petroleum-base brake fluid and non-petroleum-base brake fluid used in auto hydraulic braking systems.
\nThis standard applies to the symbols intended for commercial brake fluid containers, and the symbols intended for brake fluid containers fitted on motor vehicles.<\/p>\n
2 SHAPE, DIMENSIONS AND COLOR OF GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS<\/p>\n
2.1 Petroleum-base brake fluid
\nThe symbol shall be a green equilateral triangle with a red border, with a single white oil drop positioned centrally inside the triangle; see Figure 1.<\/p>\n

2.2 Nom-petroleum-base brake fluid
\nThe symbol shall be a yellow regular octagon with a black border, with a black symbol representing a brake positioned centrally within the octagon; see Figure 2.<\/p>\n

2.3 The dimensions in Figure 1 and Figure 2 are the minimum nominal dimensions. It is recommended that in practice larger symbols in proportion be used as far as possible.<\/p>\n
3 LOCATION OF GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS<\/p>\n
3.1 For the brake fluid container in shopping, the symbol shall be affixed on the clearly visible position on container (filler cap not included).
\n3.2 For the brake fluid reservoir used in auto hydraulic braking system, the symbol may be located on the reservoir filler cap and within 100mm of the center of the filler cap.<\/p>\n
4 OTHER REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n
4.1 There shall be at least one clearly visible symbol for every one brake fluid reservoir.
\n4.2 Symbols shall be affixed, engraved or embossed on the reservoir with a way to make them indelible and durable, and clearly visible.
\n4.3 A deletion sign of “crossing” can be added on the symbols used in auto hydraulic braking system to indicate that such type of braking fluid cannot be used.
\n4.4 Written information can be included at the discretion of the vehicle manufacturer, under the symbol, but it shall be outside the boundary of the symbol.<\/p>\n
